Pristeem V1

Designed at Tomorrow Lab

Pristeem is a 10-minute self-service dry cleaner of the highest quality that busy people love. Users of Pristeem can de-wrinkle, deodorize, and sanitize up to 3 garments at a time. It uses a combination of steam, hot and cold air, and a specially-formulated chemical to clean the clothes.

Project roles: Industrial design, mechanical engineering

Pristeem
10-minute dry cleaning for the home

Pristeem is a novel solution for quickly un-wrinkling and deodorizing clothing using steam and specially-formulated chemicals. I worked on the industrial and mechanical design of the first version of this product, a portable and collapsible device for use at home.

Industrial Design

Pristeem is designed to be collapsible, easy to move around, small enough to store under a bed or in a closet when not in use, and compatible with a range of decor choices.

Throughout the design process, I illustrated concepts and built prototypes to explore collapsing mechanisms, wheel and handle placement, construction methods, and form language.

Mechanical Design

I developed the sliding and latching mechanisms that allow the lid to move up and down with minimal effort when expanding and collapsing the device. Inspired by “weightless” window blinds, the design uses constant-force springs to offset the weight of the lid and bowden cables to trigger the latch.
